Dr. Pierrat was a Podcast Guest on Further Together the ORAU Podcast. Episode “Of rugrats, plant water usage and climate change: A conversation with Zoe Pierrat, Ph.D., NASA Postdoctoral Fellow”.
Dr. Pierrat was a guest on the podcast Hotter Weirder Smarter with Dr. Ruby Patterson. They chat about all kinds of things from plants, fieldwork, and imposter syndrome to finding community, riding bikes, and their killer skills on the triangle.

Dr. Pierrat was an interviewee on Univision 34 Los Angeles for a story on climate change and extinction (El Cambio Climatico y Extinción).
Dr. Pierrat created a TedEd lesson on solar-induced chlorophyll fluorescence (SIF), a small light signal emitted by plants during the photosynthetic process.
Dr. Pierrat was an interviewee on Sustaining US by KCLS - an L.A. PBS station talking about youth activism in the climate movement.

Dr. Pierrat gave a lecture at the Earth to Sky series at Channel Islands National Park where she shared research from the PIE Lab and resources for using and interpreting remote sensing data. The Earth to Sky Partnership nurtures and supports a growing community of interpreters, educators and scientists learning and sharing science and communication techniques. Their community of practice develops interpretive and educational products and programs for use in refuges, parks and other sites of place-based education.

As an educator at the UCLA Mathias Botanical Gardens, Dr. Pierrat led tours through the garden for a variety of audiences from 1st- 12th grade students, UCLA groups, and visiting adults. The UCLA Mathias Botanical Gardens aims to show everyone the beauty of plants and foster a new appreciation for nature. As part of Dr. Pierrat's work with the UCLA Botanic Gardens, she gave several public lectures on "Plants and Climate" at Explore Your Universe, a science outreach event hosted at UCLA.

Community Organizing

Linking Optical and Energy Fluxes Workshop

Dr. Pierrat was the lead organizer for the FLUXNET funded "Linking Optical and Energy Fluxes" Workshop. 40 scientists representing a wide range of disciplines, geographies, and career stages gathered at Niwot Ridge Mountain Research Station to start building an international community connecting remote sensing and ecosystem flux science. The group discussed opportunities, challenges, and next steps with respect to using remote sensing to estimate terrestrial water, energy, and carbon fluxes.

Advancing ecosystem carbon flux research at the Lorentz Center

Dr. Pierrat co-organized a workshop at the Lorentz Center in Leiden, Netherlands. In this five-day workshop, a group of international researchers came together to work on ‘advancing ecosystem carbon flux research’, with topics ranging from processes in the carbon cycle to machine learning tools and remote sensing.

Science Team Meetings

Dr. Pierrat has co-organized for both the ECOSTRESS and OCO Science Team Meetings.

Society for Gender Equity in Geoscience (SGEG)

Dr. Pierrat founded SGEG in 2019 with some other incredible women at UCLA to promote gender equity in the geophysical sciences through outreach, community building, institutional reform, and career development. At her time at UCLA she served a variety of different roles supporting the organization. You can follow current activities on the Instagram and Twitter.

Center for Diverse Leadership in Science (CDLS)

Dr. Pierrat is a CDLS fellow. The financial support from CDLS provided her the opportunity to engage in additional research, mentorship, and outreach. It also gave her an additional sense of community and belonging and valuable trainings for both personal and professional skills development.

Chi Epsilon Pi (XEP)

XEP is UCLA's atmospheric graduate student organization. Dr. Pierrat started as the Media Director and became Vice President for the 2019-2020 academic year. As Vice President, she served on the Math and Physical Sciences Graduate student council, which provides funding from the school to graduate student groups. You can see what XEP is up to on their website and Twitter.
